As some of you may have read in this post, I painted up some Orks this weekend for fun.. well..the skin was fun... I have also been aching for a new project since I completed my Necrons..in all fairness, that was a small project as I already had the force, I just updated with Barges and more Scarabs.. it was always going to be a quick update..
I am still enjoying playing them, this weekend is in fact their first tournament - Caledonian Uprising. Can't wait..
But I need a hobby project to go on with at the same time.. This hobby is very dynamic/fluid for me... I can't sit still or rest on my laurels..I enjoy the game so much I just like to have something stirring in the pot for the future..
This brings me to my Black Templar Bikers.... these guys actually got an appearance in the one of the first posts of the blog over a year ago...(proof of no band wagoning from me here!) where they stared as the Biker Captain and Command Squad Vs Tau (you can find that shocking bit of video HERE...ah my old kitchen table..poor substitute for the gaming club I now run!...how times change BOLLOCKS! It turns out that I never loaded that video up...umm...sorry).
The idea was that they would be built up as Black Templars 'Knights' - charging into the enemy at speed with great fury and righteous indignation.. but running them as a vanilla marine biker army led by the Great Khan himself... but I was buying a house at the time and the hobby expenditure sort of died a bit during that period..
I blew the dust off the models as I took them from the shelf and damn..they look good..I've styled those fuckers right.

Keeping it in the 4th Ed Family: Black Templars

Evening champs, as I decided the other day, I am going to keep on with Deathwing. Partly I feel its "unfinished business", but namely its just more enjoyable than most of the other armies to play that I've tested recently. However I want to "extend" the force as it were, just to give myself something to change the pace while still keeping it in the family.
Since the Dark Angels book, unfortunately, sucks on the most part, I'd probably have to look elsewhere, since really you can only really make two other types of lists outside of the Deathwing/Double wing lists we see, and neither of them are particularly striking or exciting. These lists being "GreenWing" as its affectionatly called by FAAC players, and Ravenwing based lists.
Now neither of these are really ideal. The mech based army (greenwing) is just pretty vanilla, but not as good as standard marines. The Ravenwing is not the worst, Samael is pretty "meh" but you can run plenty of bikers (plus without a shadow of a doubt the attack bikes are scoring here - giving you ~9 scoring units) and then have some terminators running off the teleport homers. At 1750 there is not all that much room for anything, but its quite interesting - in fact I'll do a post about this later with some Ravenwing biker idea's.
Black Templars certainly intrigued me, and they can do a lot of the things I want to do - run unique terminators, plus have a mix of mech. BroLo had mentioned a few idea's in my other thread, and I'd tested a BT foot army as well, so its certainly a route I could see myself going down.

Lots of Lists! Dear lord what to play!

Howdy! So its been a little while since I've chimed in on the gaming side of things on this site, outside of a couple of lists. In honesty, its been because I've been a bit stuck recently for ammo, purely because I've just been playtesting/learning some Grey Knight lists. Not to mention when I had full intentions of getting a couple of posts up while Venerable was away, I got struck down with the worst case of food poisoning. But anyway, apologies for not getting anything up over the weekend!
Right now, I am sort of stuck as what to play. Its not quite burn out, I still am eager to go down and play, but I can't quite get set with what I want to use. Grey Knights have been taking up most of my gaming time, but in honesty I can't quite get settled with them. Its leaving me in quite a bad position of indecision. We have Brighton coming up in early November, which means if I want a new army I do need to get started on the painting side soon. I'll certainly have another event after Brighton, and maybe look for 1 or 2 more before then (looking like maybe Tolworth Mayhem in October if I can get a place).
So the long and the short of it, I desperately need to settle, and quick!

Now I know that when planning for a tournament we should pick our lists early, most of us have a strong tournament army ready anyway and can just play that – we are experienced with it and understand its capabilities, limitations etc.
But I get bored easily.
I’m happy with the Dark Eldar list I took to Blog Wars and won with, but there is a reason I’m not going to take them to Brighton Warlords 1750 Tournament on the 16/17th July.
The terrain at Brighton is more often than not sparse on the tabletop. There are always a few bits and there is usually a good mix, but there is not really the 25% that Dark Eldar really need to survive. Without cover in the midfield I can’t generate cover for the rest of the army through the Hellions who, with stealth, are happy to take shots..
On a separate point, the soft scores for basing models state that all flying bases must have texture and colour, I have an issue with this as I like my flying bases to blend into whatever board they are on, which I feel is the main reason for them being clear…BUT I don’t want to lose 7 points (10 for a draw…so you can see its worth it..) for being awkward and not basing them!
So I have choices:

Blog Wars 2011
Ladies and Gentlemen, prepare yourselves for a series of battle reports of epic proportions. I played three fantastic games at Blog Wars but as usual I had a bit of burnout afterwards so I am only now getting round to writing the reports. I had my SLR and tripod with me on the day so I wanted to try something new. I set up the shot at the start and took a photo at the end of each player turn from the exact same location. This means it is possible to follow the course of the entire battle from turn to turn (in theory).
In the first game I faced off against Brother Loring (Brolo) of 3++ fame. He took an interesting Black Templar's foot list. I was pretty scared, if I'm honest, as I know he knows his shit, and I had rarely played against Templar's before. However, I needn't have worried, as he turned out to be amongst the most gracious opponents I have ever faced. At the start, he explained all the special rules to me in detail, and continued to remind me throughout the game if I was about to do something really stupid.
His list was as follows:

"Hi Killswitch,
I follow you over on the Space Wolves blog and thought I’d get your email from there. You tend to write some fairly solid Wolf lists so I’d be interested to hear your personal thoughts on Black Templars, taking into consideration the latest FAQ. I don’t really have a clue where to start and would like some kind of list to base my army upon. Hope you can help. I tend to play 1850pts so if you could write me something along that point value, it would be much appreciated.
Cheers,
John Reegar."
Well as we all know, there has been a nice FAQ to revamp the old marine codex’s which has helped them a fair bit.
We have seen quite a few interesting Hybrid lists so far, with a plentiful amount of shooting.
Id like to have a go without looking too much online and see what takes my fancy from the codex.
