Caledonian Uprising

I’m not dead folks just been as busy as a busy thing since Christmas with work, family and everything in between I’ve also been busy getting my army ready for Caledonian Uprising next week. Its been a tight call as I ordered some forge world bits to finish off my army but these only arrived last week so I’ve had my work cut out for me.

So Caledonian uprising is next week, for those not in the UK or with their heads in a hole the Caledonian Uprising is one of the UK’s biggest tournaments with around 120players in attendance this year.

I had a real hard time deciding on what list to take, I always do in the weeks prior to a tournament but this time I got myself in a real conundrum. I’ve been playing a Logan Hybrid list for the last 6 months or so with mixed success. At Onslaught I performed average placing 19th. The list showed its potential but it also had some glaring weaknesses, dealing with AV 14 springs to mind here. I also had some terrible bad luck such as facing Venom spam Dark Eldar on an open board but then having the initiative seized from me and my army getting gunned down turn 1.

Then I went to Blog Wars 2 in December and quite frankly I played like complete and utter spanner. In game one I played a sub optimal Descent of Angels list and only just wiped it off the board but in the process lost a lot of VP’s due to silly mistakes. Game two I played Dave Symcox from 40KUK podcast with a typical Wolf Rhino style list. I just got out played here plain and simple, I made stupid mistakes and just seemed to forget how my army worked completely letting parts of my army get picked off at will. The finally I played John Holland, a former fellow Space Wolves blogger. Again John runs lots of Grey Hunters and Long Fangs and when I should have gone on the defence I went on the offence. What did this mean? My not so mobile army needed to be mobile, you work out the rest.

Back to Caledonian Uprising and what list I have submitted.

I’ve decided to give full fat Logan Wing a try so out went the vehicles and in went more bodies and most importantly more firepower. More Melta has been put in and the two large Long Fang packs have been re formed into 3 x 5 man packs with rockets. Logan and his crew are pure foot slogging now with a full 10 man compliment, 2 Combimelta’s and 2 Cyclones. The rest of the troops selection is the typical 5 man Wolf Guard unit with a Cyclone, Combimelta and an extra storm bolter. I went for an extra storm bolter for a couple of reasons. Firstly the unit is not mobile so the ability to tag things a t 24” range means the units can contribute more . Secondly its nice to be able to pick off those MSU units that fall out of venoms and Razorbacks we all now the type, 3 strong wrack and Acolyte units that end up running around mid to end game causing a nuisance.

Finally had had 200 or so points to fill out the list, in Hindsight I really wish I put some wolf scouts into the mix with a Power Fisted Wolf Guard but I ended up going for 2 single fully decked out Thunderwolves. One has a Thunderhammer and Storm Shield and the other has a Powerfist and Sotrm Shield. The only reason they are not equipped the same is because that’s what models I have, simples.

I plan to use these kind of like how I use the Lone Wolves that being Wolf Guard support and interference. They aren’t as tough as the Lone Wolves but they are faster so the role changes slightly, they have the speed to pick off weak units and harass the back field if needed.

Anyway here is the list:-

Caledonian will be the first of a few tournaments I will be attending in the first half of the year and is my chance to really get my game face on and stop making stupid mistakes. How will this list do? I don’t know really, it can be torrented away without much effort by some lists and I know it really struggles against Paladins but right now I am enjoying the challenge.

Oh and I forgot to mention I’ve got Dual lash Chaos first round! Lol

  1. Hey Bradimus.. glad to hear you are all set bro! I'm just finishing off some Scarabs and them I'm set too!

I like it..it is still lacking in mobility as Loganwing generally is..but the range is good enough for you to just smash transports and level the playing field.

The TWC will help with vehicles etc too..

Lash Chaos first? Better get that Rune Priest to warm up his Runic Staff! The obligatory Oblits are tough to shift with 2+ save for missiles.. but force enough saves and job done..

  2. i like that list actually, it is different and should make for some interesting games for all concerned. The addition of a cavalry is a major positive i think, as they will easily sort out most stuff on their own, or at least tie up units for a turn or two. plus the threat range is terrifying.

  3. Love the list.

Both Andy's know my affinity for foot elite armies - so this really appeals to me.

I know the list has been submitted but I feel if I was going to run this I'd rock 2x Squads of Scouts - just because of various tactical / deployment options. Disruption of backfield, using infiltrate / scout to just create a road block for advancing armies - all that jazz.

Funny thing about the TWC - they are just deathstars - but being 2 wounds cant be insta-killed (to 99.999% of the game playing public) - is that you either pound into them - saving your precious MEQ bodies from mass fire, or have them cause havok. I played against some dudes 1750 IG foot list, and the two of them just took out the entire force.

Andy - we'll get together for a game soon mate. I might need to proxy, well pretty much everything. But right now playing a game doesnt appeal to me, but I think a game or two might change that.
