Prime's Footwolves 1850

I'd thought it's about time I drop a post in to let my hordes of fans know I'm still alive (yea right) Following on from Vens recent Space Wolf post I'll chime in a bit on what I've been up to recently. I've been without a Laptop for the last few months as my last one went the way of the Dodo so I've been without the means to do any blog posts, blogging on a iPad just ain't happening.

I haven't posted anything since way before 6th landed on our laps and I've missed to opportunity to get some really good posts out about my beloved Space Wolves. So since 6th landed what have I been up to? Getting as many games in a possible ready for September as I've got the Northern Warlords GT coming up. I spent the first few weeks running my 5th edition lists seeing how they had been effected by the new rules and just basically getting used to the new rule set. For the last few weeks I've been fine tuning what I hope will be a solid 6th edition Space Wolf list.

What have I been running then?

Primes Footwolves of Doooom! that's what!

Wolf Lord, Thunderwolf, Runic Armour, Thunder Hammer,Storm shield, WTN, WTT, 1 x Fenrisian Wolf

Rune Priest, Runic Armour, Runic staff, Jaws, Storm Caller

Lone Wolf, TDA, Chainfist, Storm Shield
Lone Wolf, TDA, Chainfist, Storm Shield
Lone Wolf, TDA, Chainfist, Storm Shield

10 Grey Hunters, 2 Meltaguns, Wolf Standard, Power Wep, Drop Pod
10 Grey hunters, 2 Plasmaguns, Wolf Standard
10 Grey hunters, 2 Plasmaguns, Wolf Standard

 4 Thunderwolves, 2 x Storm Shields, Powerfist, 1 x Meltabomb
5 Long Fangs, 4 Missile Launchers
5 Long Fangs, 4 Missile Launchers
5 Long Fangs, 4 Missile Launchers

Some of you know that I've always liked foot slogging lists and in my opinion solid scoring infantry is king in this edition,  I also like to run lists that are perhaps not so mainstream and spammy.   I've tested Rhinos and Razorbacks and came to the conclusion that you're just asking to give away first blood on a silver platter and condemning your troops to certain doom by riding in them.

Caledonian Day 2 (Brads report)

Game 4 Vs Neil Gibbons' Chaos Deamons!

Mission:- Dawn Raid, Primary Kills Points, secondary seize ground.

Skulltaker on a Jugger
2 x 6 Blood Crushers, Icon etc
6 Fiends with Upgrade
2 x 5 Plague Bearers
A massive unit of Flesh hounds (20 I think)
3 x Soul Grinders with Phlegm

Blood Crusher heavy Deamons Vs Foot Slogging Marines, you do the math!

In all seriousness though if I had to choose an army to not play this weekend out of all the armies in attendance this would be it. Everything in this army loves to chew marines on foot up and boy do I have a lot of marines on foot. After I had jokingly congratulated Neil on his victory I set about thinking how the hell I would beat him. Area terrain was very minimal and we had three large LoS blocking buildings in the middle. I would have deployed as much as possible in area terrain but it was too dangerous with three Phlegm chuckers knocking around so I was forced to castle up and layer my squads without bunching up too close together.

I was given some breathing space when Neil got the wrong wave down first turn and had to deploy a unit of Blood Crushers without Skulltaker, so down came a unit of Crushers, Fiends and Plague Bearers. Neil deployed cautiously and managed to conceal most of his army from my rockets so I began to light up those Blood Crushers and threw everything I could at them.

I would have gone for the Fiends but they were out of sight of probably 90% of my firing....

Caledonian Day 1 (Brad's report)

In not so many words “Worst Tournament ever!”

Just kidding it was absolutely brilliant what I should have said was “ Bradimus Prime’s worst tournament performance ever!” As you know I ended up taking a full fat Logan Wing army, originally I submitted the list where I had two Thunder wolves decked out with storm shields and power fist’s. I intended to use these guys like Lone Wolves but in the few practice games I had I just couldn’t get on with the list. So in a panic I ended up re submitting my list and took a -10 point penalty for the pleasure, that was my first mistake.

I ended up going for my original idea and submitted my Logan-bomb-lite list with a pack of 5 Long Fangs in a pod and a pack of 5 Wolf Scouts. How did it do? Pretty rubbish to be honest. I had a string of bad match ups and even badder luck (is badder a word? God knows) My final placing was 63 out of 110 so it was a bottom half finish for Bradimus. I scored a full 30 points on painting and the usual 18 for sportsman ship but that -10 penalty cost me 20 places by my calculations so that will be the last time I do that, lesson well learned. Anyway here’s my game by game account:-

But what about Vapnartak?

In all my excitement about Caledonian uprising at the weekend I've totally forgotten about another tourney I'm attending on the 5th February called Vapnartak. This little tourney was the first ever tournament I ever attended for 40k back in February 2010, its a 1000 pt event played over 4 games in one day.

This year the rules pack changed a little making my regular 1000 pt list a no go, heres some of the restrictions from this years rules pack:-

All armies cannot cost more than 1,000pts.

Special Characters are allowed.

Furthermore the force organisation chart is amended so that each army may only have two choices for each of Elites, Heavy Support and Fast attack.

In addition, the army can ONLY have a single HQ choice (units that can be taken as multiples within a single HQ slot, such as Haemonculi, are allowed)

This year players are allowed to take units that may be HQ but do not fill a HQ slot, such as Chaos Space Marine Greater Daemons.

Finally, each army may not include more than two types of the same vehicle, dedicated or otherwise.

So only two of any vehicle means I've got to be clever with transports............

Caledonian Uprising

I’m not dead folks just been as busy as a busy thing since Christmas with work, family and everything in between I’ve also been busy getting my army ready for Caledonian Uprising next week. Its been a tight call as I ordered some forge world bits to finish off my army but these only arrived last week so I’ve had my work cut out for me.

So Caledonian uprising is next week, for those not in the UK or with their heads in a hole the Caledonian Uprising is one of the UK’s biggest tournaments with around 120players in attendance this year.

I had a real hard time deciding on what list to take, I always do in the weeks prior to a tournament but this time I got myself in a real conundrum. I’ve been playing a Logan Hybrid list for the last 6 months or so with mixed success. At Onslaught I performed average placing 19th. The list showed its potential but it also had some glaring weaknesses, dealing with AV 14 springs to mind here. I also had some terrible bad luck such as facing Venom spam Dark Eldar on an open board but then having the initiative seized from me and my army getting gunned down turn 1.

Then I went to Blog Wars 2 in December and quite frankly I played like complete and utter spanner. In game one I played a sub optimal Descent of Angels list and only just wiped it off the board but in the process lost a lot of VP’s due to silly mistakes. Game two I played Dave Symcox from 40KUK podcast with a typical Wolf Rhino style list. I just got out played here plain and simple, I made stupid mistakes and just seemed to forget how my army worked completely letting parts of my army get picked off at will. The finally I played John Holland, a former fellow Space Wolves blogger. Again John runs lots of Grey Hunters and Long Fangs and when I should have gone on the defence I went on the offence. What did this mean? My not so mobile army needed to be mobile, you work out the rest.

Back to Caledonian Uprising and what list I have submitted.

Logan Evolution

Yea Yea I know I haven't done my Blog wars 2 reports yet but I did shite so the motivation has been somewhat lacking. Anyway I wanted to talk about the evolution of my Logan wing before I submit the list for Caledonian uprising on the 22nd December.

I was ready for jacking in the concept after Blog Wars but on reflection I realised the list was fine it was just my playing that did me in. The inclusion of Melta was a definite good thing over plasma and give the list what it needed. One thing I noticed about the list was that I needed to commit my troops to the fight and take the brunt of whatever nasties the enemy threw at me. This mean't that my troops took a beating and more often than not a big beating leaving them either too depleted or wiped out.

I've decided the Wolf Guard are the way to go with this list, they Grey Hunters are good but so are the Wolf Guard and who doesn't want more Cyclones? So with Grey Hunters being swapped out Wolf Guard I still need to decide what direction the rest of the list needs to take.

Enough bullshit lets look at the lists.

Bradimus' Wolves at Blog Wars 2

You all probably know about Blog Wars 2 and if you don’t then take your head out of your arse! Anyway I’ll be attending on the 3rd of December with some of the other Sons crew and many other members of the blogosphere down at Maelstrom Games.

I’ll be running Space Wolves as usual as I just can’t bring myself to run anything else at the minute, I just love them furry buggers too much. I took my Wolves down to Onslaught a few weeks ago and fared alright with them but I exposed some holes in my list that need tweaking.

Onslaught 2011 day 2

Day 2 of Onslaught and I was ready for action, I had stayed off the ale the night before so I was quite fresh in the morning which is a refreshing change from my usual stinking hangover.

The round 4 postings were up and I saw I was up against Nathan "The Fat Angry Geek" Roberts from the WH40UK Podcast and his Dark Eldar.

Game 4 vs Dark Eldar
Seize Ground + Pitched Battle.

Army List:

Baron
Haemo
15+ Hellions
3+ Venoms with Blaster Trueborn inside
4+ Venoms with 3 Wracks inside
3 Ravagers

The terrain on the board we got was actually very good with a nice balance of area and LoS blocking terrain. I won the roll off and chose the deployment zone that suited my Fangs the best and then set up. I could see Nathan would be able to shield his Venoms with an Imperial Bastion so I planned to set up a cross fire with my Fangs and the Drop Pod Wolf Guard, couple that with a Relentless Long Fangs pack and I should be able to pull off a nice little Alpha Strike......

Onslaught 2011 Day 1

As promised here is the first of my Onslaught 2011 posts, I apologise for the lack of photo’s but I forgot to take my camera and ended up getting so engrossed in my games that I didn’t take any pictures on my iPhone either. Doh!

I played 5 games over the two days and I have to say I had 5 great opponents. I ended up placing 19th with 3 wins and 2 losses which was a bit of a disappointment but as I sat and reviewed the games in my head I think it was down to pure luck that I lost those two games...

.... In a game of random dice rolling this shit does jump up and bit you in the ass every now and then.
