But what about Vapnartak?

In all my excitement about Caledonian uprising at the weekend I've totally forgotten about another tourney I'm attending on the 5th February called Vapnartak. This little tourney was the first ever tournament I ever attended for 40k back in February 2010, its a 1000 pt event played over 4 games in one day.

This year the rules pack changed a little making my regular 1000 pt list a no go, heres some of the restrictions from this years rules pack:-

All armies cannot cost more than 1,000pts.

Special Characters are allowed.

Furthermore the force organisation chart is amended so that each army may only have two choices for each of Elites, Heavy Support and Fast attack.

In addition, the army can ONLY have a single HQ choice (units that can be taken as multiples within a single HQ slot, such as Haemonculi, are allowed)

This year players are allowed to take units that may be HQ but do not fill a HQ slot, such as Chaos Space Marine Greater Daemons.

Finally, each army may not include more than two types of the same vehicle, dedicated or otherwise.

So only two of any vehicle means I've got to be clever with transports............

as I can only take two Rhinos to throw my Grey Hunters about in. Only 1 HQ doesn't bother me as I'd only ever take 1 at 1000 points anyway so that not a problem. Anyway here's a few lists I've been playing around with:-

List 1:

Logan Grimnar

5 Wolf Guard
1 Terminator, Powerfist, Cyclone ML
4 Power Armour

5 Wolf Guard
1 Terminator, Powerwep, Cyclone ML
4 Power Armour, Combi Melta

4 Power Armour, Combi Melta

5 Wolf Guard

4 Power Armour, Combi Melta

5 Long Fangs
4 Muti Melta
Drop Pod

List 2

Rune Priest, LL, Jaws, Meltabombs

3 Wolf Guard
2 Powerfist
3 Combi Melta

7 Grey Hunters
Meltagun
Banner
Rhino + Dozerblade

7 Grey Hunters

Rhino + Dozerblade

7 Grey Hunters
Meltagun
Banner
Drop Pod

5 Grey Hunters
Meltagun

5 Long Fangs
4 Missiles

5 Long Fangs
4 Missiles

Ok so of the two lists I'd say list 2 is the most effective with 24 bodies to throw forward in the form of the three Grey Hunter packs. The Drop pod adds some alpha strike capability if I get the chance and lets me throw a pack into the enemy quickly. Both lists pack 8 missiles a turn with the ability to target 4 different units if need be so no difference there.

The Logan list obviously packs the Logan-bomb-lite to take pressure off the 20 Wolf Guard bodies pushing midfield. Logan could be a beast or a baby at this points level as he would chew up small MSU units but could struggle if he runs into other Big nasties or Deathstars (Nob Bikers are popular at 1k from past experience) The other downside is that the Logan list packs no psychic defence which could be a problem with the amount of losers running Gay Knights nowadays ;)

I've got until the 22nd to decide... hmmmmm

  1. I can see why Nob Bikers would be popular..at 1000pts it is pretty hard to deal with them.. Jaws would be good as are the high strength missiles and meltaguns...though if you are using meltaguns..you are probably too close for comfort!

What's the common stuff used here?

I could Draigo wing being used at this...Draigo, 10 Paladins with 4 Cannons and 4 pieces of MC'd shit and then a single Paladin with a Hammer hanging out... tough to kill at 1000points.

Lack of mobility and range is the key weakness there though.

Wolves get a lot for 1000 and can be very good.. I agree with your thoughts on LoganBomb-lite though..could hit very hard, but could get slaughtered by massive deathstars.

Hate to say it, but a Coteaz build can be very strong here..
    Coteaz
    3 x Psyfledreads
    2 x 5 Aco's with 3 melta's in Psybacks
    1 x 5 Deathcults and 2 Crusaders in Psyback
    1 x 5 DC and 1 Crusader in Psyback

To me, at 1k that is pretty scary.

    Deathwing? Belial, 3 x 5 CML/TH/SS Termies and 2 Typhoons?

Orks - Ghazzie and just Boyz... that'd still be alot of Orks!

  2. The rules pack means that Coteaz list would be illegal as you can only have two of the same vehicle so the max would be two Psybacks and 2 Psyflemen dreads and the Elites, Fast and Heavy slots have been reduced to 2 slots as well.

Orks have dominated previously with Ghazzie and Battlewagons rolling everywhere but this year they will struggle because if they take Gazzer there's no bik mek with cheese allowed.

    Aco's + MM Servitor + Chimera (100 ish?)

    Psydread - 135
    Psydread - 135

Even if my memory is really off - that still has 60 odd points to make up for my mistakes. Couple of melta bunkers. Pskers prob would great at 1000 points especially with transport limitations as people will be on foot. Psybacks just sit on objectives and plink away at what the dreads de-mech and the templates miss.

If my points are fairly decent, can throw some DCA in the mix (by my estimate 4x) and have a CC unit as well for any clever clogs that brings along some dirty unit hoping to out deathstar you. Oh and you have AP2 templates on those psykers!
