Ven's Blog Wars 4 Bat Reps

*PICS TO BE UPDATED LATER*

This last weekend was Blog Wars 4. The 4th (unsurprisingly, its a bit Ronseal) such event ran by Alex from From the Fang. For those not in the know it is a one day, 1850, 3 game, standard mission tournament with a single stipulation - you must include a Special Character in your force, ideally from your Primary Detachment.

I have won the previous 3 and was gunning for a 4th title.
The mission packs, entrants and details can be found here.

I ran the following after I couldn't finish my Nids in time.. which I think would have fared equally well in my match ups. If not better.. But anyway, I ran my Necrons - tweaked for the scenario:

Obyron
10 Immortals - Gauss
10 Immortals - Gauss
5 Warriors - Night Scythe
5 Warriors - Night Scythe
5 Warriors - Night Scythe
5 Warriors - Night Scythe
6 Wraiths
6 Wraiths
Annihilation Barge
Annihilation Barge
Annihilation Barge

Lots of shooting, lots of highly mobile troops, Aircraft, wraiths for distraction/tie ups.. should be good...what did I face?

Game 1 - Necrons/Blood Angels by Andy BG from Iron Legion
Game 2 - Grey Knights by Matt Greenwood from From the Fang
Game 3 - Eldar/Dark Eldar by Frank Marsh from Generation 40k
"Unofficial" Game 4 - Eldar/Dark Eldar by Frank Marsh from Generation 40k

You can guess, I am sure, that due to the speed of Game 3, we were able to get in another game.. but who took a 50 min destruction-style spanking? Read on, reader, read on..

THIS IS WORDY! 10 MINS READING TIME PROBS! Worth it though o' course..

Off to Blog Wars 4 - Tournament time!

Morning all,
It's kick off. Blog Wars 4 the twice yearly 1850 one dayer is today and 3 Sons lads are heading up to the Eye of the Storm to risk the lives of their toy soldiers in an effort to bring home the gold.

I'm off with my Necrons (as we could see from my last post, the Nids didn't quite get finished), my SC? Obyron. Let's go boys!

The Voice is bringing Spesh Mahreens in a cheeky "anti'meta" counter, plenty of anti infantry firepower and the jack of all trades Sternguard come out to play, Null Zone is on fire at the minute, even the Thunderfire finds a place. It's niche, but it could work.. he is looking for table 1, final game revenge against ME! lol..good luck son!
Special character (compulsory) - Telion & the Tank guy..oh yeah, Chronus forget his name for a sec..

Bringer of Death (Steve) is rocking his Chaos Demons - not too cheesy, only 5 flying MCs and 3 units of Flamers, 1 unit of Screamers and min troops.
It's a damn good job Steve forgets half of his Demons 6th ed rules.. after having the dust collect on them for over 18 months (while he played GK) in 5th, he's rocking them now again in 6th and whilst I think he is enjoying it.. His special characte? why its the never before seen flying chicken - Fateweaver.
BTW, Steve is not the only one with demons..

These are the armies present today ... as long as they all show up!
Right, well... plenty of Nids, Necrons and Demons..as well teh newly popular DE/E combos, loads of IG allied in (which doesn't show)...should be tough.
1st place it is then! 4 times in a row?

Big shout out to Dimitris from Badab War in Cambridge blog who is travelling with us today with his gorgeous Epidemius themed Nurgle army of CSM w allied Demons.

Blog Wars 4 1850 Tournament 1st Decemeber - TICKETS AVAILABLE

Hey guys,

Thought I'd throw out a quick community post in support of Blog Wars 4 - an 1850, 3 game tournament being held at the Eye of the Storm/Maelstrom on 1st December - just 3 weeks away!
This is the second Blog Wars tournament this year, the last being in July and being immense fun!

There is always a small but good crowd of guys, with quite a lot having been to all the previous Blog Wars.

It originally started as a great way to meet the other UK bloggers and is the baby of Alex from "From the Fang" - who has really stepped up and ran this great event for a couple of years now.

It still is that same event, fun - spirited, community based and well organised.

For those that are unaware, the event has just one stipulation - that your army contains a Special Character from your main FOC (allied ones don't count but can still come out to play).

There are 23 confirmed attendees this time round, with space for more.
Fantastic prize support as ever and there are a wide range of players, from tournament regulars like The Voice, Bringer of Death Steve and myself (not exclusively...Franco Marrufo is hitting is up for the first time I believe from the sign up sheet..sir, your reputation precedes you :) plus not forgetting Matty Greenwood, the erstwhile doubles companion of Alex and tournament regular himself.. think he is still out for revenge from Jolly Toys in January!) as well as some gorgously painted and themed forces.. we've had the Rebel Alliance, evil Empire armies, great looking Nids from Sixth Degree over at WeeMen blogs, the Relictors from those boys are pretty damn nice too! ..

So overall, if you run a blog in the UK, or simply want to come and play some games of 40k for the day, enjoy a great venue and good company.. get signed up over at From the Fang.

Tickets are £15 and are AVAILABLE NOW!
What are you waiting for? Seize the day bitches
P.S - Should probably mention that I have won it the last 3 times in a row.. step right up and take on the big dog!! Can YOU stop me??

New life in the old project yet: Tyranids

Time to reinvigorate the Nids.
I'm staring at these guys now on my living room floor.. 1 Tyrants, 1 Harpy conversion, 1 Trygon, 3 Carnifexes, 18 Warriors, Zoanthrope (Doom conversion), 25 Termagants, 10 Gargoyles, 31 Hormagaunts (random number hey!..these guys are all getting turned into Termagants with green stuff casting fleshborers), 3 Broodlords, 8 Genestealers, Lictor (Deathleaper) ...

New additions - 2 Tervigons.
On order - a second pair of balrog wings for the Tyrant to become a Flyrant..
And thanks to The Voice.. another flyrant with twin devourers..

I've just bought 4 old school Tyranid Warriors, 1 with a Devourer which I am going to cast and use as Hive Guard. Fuck paying full price for a boring ass model.. I am going "Old School" for these guys.. I love the old look.. I remember being a kid and being jealous of a childhood friends Nids - they were very cool.. the old plastic Warriors with boneswords - when I saw them, they were the coolest thing I'd ever seen!

Tyranids have been a long project for me. I've never really given them real drive or momentum to finish the project though. You can see some old posts here and a really old Warseer project log that I started when I last really pushed the Nids...wow it'll be 3 years in Jan since I last really built or painted a Nid! Crazy!

I'll be honest. The change to Nids through Sixth has gotten a lot of people excited and I am one of them.. the benefit of a huge 'back catalogue' of armies is the costs of updating and relaunching a project is very minimal.. I have just bought a set of Balrog wings, 2 Terv's, 1 new Flyrant (courtesy of The Voice) and 4 OOPWarriors for £20.. so that's about £100 all told.. Not bad.. and mainly due to the cost of Tervigons..

I did think about just converting the Carnifexes, but the new model is nice and HUGE, so it hit my weakspot for massive models.. bought!

Today, I am going to spray paint the base coat on the new models, then airbrush a base coat onto all the models that haven't got it already.. the rest of the day will be dedicated to painting chitin in base colour and maybe even washing it.. I've got a test game lined up in Wednesday vs Dimitris' Plague Marine & Epidemius army that he is taking to Blog Wars 4.. I am going to this btw, so is The Voice and Bringer of Death Steve...if you haven't already - get your ticket!!

Not Going to Blog Wars ... BUT: Sisters!

I'll leave the self righteous and probably horribly boring spiel about 40K and me for another time, all you need to know for this post is that I am the only SON not attending Blog Wars (and that Killswitch loser!) This means a couple of things, one, Venerable is absolutely assuredly not going to have to play me to a draw on Dawn of War Kill Points and potentially ruin his tournament (or watch as me winning the game comes down to better than 50% dice rolling and blowing it). Secondly it means I've not been working or tuning lists, but I thought it might be a fun to look at what I might have played, had models, paint and availability not been an issue.

In this post, I am looking at what probably, barring model availability, would have been my first or second choice. The Sisters of Battle. When I returned from my last hiatus, this was the army I picked up, now on my second hiatus, this is the army, along with one other, that I am hoping gets a significant power boost via 6th Edition rules:

The Sisters of Battle !!

Emperor's Finest - Change of Plans

No drastic change of plans, just a unfortunate scenario has occurred.

No WIP post today, I've been a bit slack this week, I have made some more units but I really want to get some painting done as well rather than just keep posting construction stages 24/7, I wouldn't mind so much if I was on the level of Atreides (look out for his post this week btw), but my strength's certainly come in the painting stages.

However, there has been a pretty huge change to my plans.

I am no longer attending Tolworth - which means I don't have to have the army ready in four more weeks. I unfortunately had a scheduling conflict which means I have to pull out of the event.

I am however, the proud owner of a place at Blog Wars Three on 2nd June up at Maelstrom.
