Backwards 40k: Blood Hunters as Chaos Marines? WTF?

Do it backwards? Have my Blood Hunters throw down on the table as Chaos Marines? Pretty sure most people have their Chaos armies run as Space Wolves these days..what about the old girl though? Life in her yet?

For those that can't remember or be arsed to look, the Blood Hunters are my generic whatever-they-like Marines, running as BA, BT and GK currently.. they lack the bolters really to be Vanilla Marines, but I see a two fold opportunity here..

I am tempted by new Chaos, whenever it hits, of course I am...who isn't?

I also love me some forgeworld and Vanilla Marines are still a cool book.. what about picking up some Forgeworld Iron Armour Marines and using the Blood Hunter colour scheme I can then run them as either Vanilla or as Chaos Space Marines..

Thing is the current chaos book is somewhat one dimensional and boring.. overcosted to a degree too, definately feels a bit stale..

But what can I do with both the existing toys that I have and what the book can offer..

So I churned out this 1750 idea for CSM...well, actually I think Stelek at YTTH did this at 2k a while back, it certainly seems familiar - I've read it somewhere else before I am sure...

Chaos Lord - Mark of Tzeentch (Iron Halo now), Power Weapon.

5 x Chosen, 2 Meltaguns, Rhino
5 x Chosen, 2 Meltaguns, Rhino

5 x Chaos SM, Meltagun, Champ - Combi Melta, Rhino
5 x Chaos SM, Meltagun, Champ - Combi Melta, Rhino
5 x Chaos SM, Meltagun, Champ - Combi Melta, Rhino
5 x Chaos SM, Meltagun, Champ - Combi Melta, Rhino
5 x Chaos SM, Meltagun, Rhino - CMelta

5 x Raptors - 2 Meltaguns
5 x Raptors - 2 Meltaguns

5 x Havocs - 2 Meltaguns, Rhino
5 x Havocs - 2 Meltaguns, Rhino
5 x Havocs - 2 Meltaguns, Rhino

That is 1750 on the nose..
It has 70 Marines - remember they are all essentially Grey Hunters in the sense they all have pistol and CCW, boltgun, grenades, so they all kick out a reasonable number of attacks, this being one of the many strengths of CSM..
It has 10 Rhinos
The Chosen can infiltrate to get themselves closer to start with, putting pressure on early..
The Lord can hit out at a smaller MSU unit on his own at I5 and will do some reasonable damage.

I am concerned about going second though - something I have not been too worried about for ages.. like a year or so since I've been truly concerned about that, it's just this build has absolutely no long range fire support! It just rushes you and sees what happens! lol.

Av11 is not that survivable in the current game, smoke and saturation will help..it is a one dimensional and novel build..

What have the existing Chaos Marine players been running?
Lash still working for you?
Something similar to this but with fire support?

  1. You're adding the Champ only to get a combi-melta. Why not take off the Champ and put the combi-melta on the Rhinos? Is the Ld boost enough to warrant the Champ? I'd rather get the shot off at a different unit, and without having to pay the cost for the Champ.

    1. In addition, the combi-meltas make the rhinos more threatening and allow you to engage even more units.

    2. I would save 60 by doing this...any ideas on what to do with it? Autocannons on squads? For some long rangr shooting?

    3. Change the havok rhino for a dread claw (+30) and increase the melta guns to 4? (+20).

Do you not just lose in annihilation? With so many small units?

  2. why only 2 melta guns on the havocs and chosen?
have you considered a dread claw (40k legal) for 65p?
