The single condition with Blog Wars is that the 1750 force must inclide a Special Character.
Last time, in June, I took Dark Eldar with a Baron theme...and won.
This time, it's Necrons taking it to the predominantly Marine tournament.
I've only played with the new codex twice so far. I do however, already have a fully built army of Necrons.. I am in the process (this weekend) of building up 20 Immortals to add to the collection (I never had them before due to their price, metal status and I loved Destroyers so hey ho)...so getting this crap ready in time is unbelievably easy...max soft scores too here... ;)
So I need a Special Character to run. Storm Lord is a strong candidate, but I am down with the less obvious.
I like Vargard Obyron for his personalised Veil of Darkness and for his Cleaving Counterblow.
Vargard will operate alongside a group of 10 Gauss Immortals, to teleport them into position to rapid fire the fuck out of a unit, to then disengage from said unit if circumstances are right and to rip apart tanks with his Warscythe.
With Cleaving Counterblow, he is also perfect for taking on MSU marine units and units that are basically crap in CC...or do not possess a power weapon..
He has A3 base, 4 on charge, plus for every miss (up to 6) he gets to hit you back.. Maximum 10 attacks. Hitting on 3's (WS6) and killing on 2's (S7 power weapon) ... with a 2+ save and T5 he is pretty tough to get through with just basic troops.
Clearly, for those units that have real combat potential, he needs to stay with the unit and act as a counter attack element, CC dissuasion dude.
So let's have a look at him in a list...
Overlord - Barge, Warscythe (Obviously), Sempiternal Weave (2+) and Mindshackle Scarabs (lol!!!)
Obyron - Warscythe, Superman Cape.
5 x Cryptek: 4 x Harbinger of Destruction (1 with Solar Pulse) and 1 x Harbringer of Despair - Abyssal Staff and Veil of Darkness
10 x Immortals - Gauss S5
10 x Immortals - Gauss S5
5 x Warriors
5 x Warriors
5 x Warriors
5 x Warriors
5 x Scarabs
6 x Scarabs
2 x Destroyers - 2 Heavy Destroyers
Annihilation Barge- Tesla baby...
Annihilation Barge- Tesla baby...
Annihilation Barge- Tesla baby...
So I have 15 points to spend here. I could split the Scarabs.. ah ha...hold on let me adjust the list up top here... never mind, that 1750..
This list is fairly straight forward. Plenty of scoring units - 6.. 4 running in the backfield with their Destruction Crypteks firing AP2 missiles forward..
The 2 Immortals can make fun times with deployments antics (both Veiled up) and port in when necessary to rapid fire the crap out of stuff. Be it ork hordes, nids or vehicles (rapid fire produces 2 glancing hits on anything..or 1 with cover, oh you went first with Necrons? Not always cover then..no smoke for sure)
Anti tank is the 4 missiles from crypteks, 2 s9 mobile lascannons, the 12 TL S7 from the Tesla's, the 2 Warscythes oh and Scarabs... enough of them.. the 40 S5 Gauss shots per turn will probably help too.. as could the S6 on the Barge and the Gauss on all the warriors..but then..we are trying to keep them alive lol!!
Anti infantry? Forget about it! Plenty man, plenty.
CC? Ah yes.. still fucked.
Lets hope we can kill all the shit that hurts me with just one Solar Pulse... I want more night time!!
The other option is going balls out on the Scarabs..an allusion to how I think the Stormlord needs to be used..but not really (oh, ok, I think the Stormlord is all about maxed Scarabs and Spyders and veil Lychguard) ...anyway, the Obyron version looks like this:
Overlord - Barge, Warscythe (Obviously) and Mindshackle Scarabs (lol!!!)
Obyron - Warscythe, Superman Cape.
4 x Cryptek: 3 x Harbinger of Destruction (1 with Solar Pulse) and 1 x Harbringer of Despair - Abyssal Staff and Veil of Darkness
10 x Immortals - Gauss S5
10 x Immortals - Gauss S5
5 x Warriors
5 x Warriors
5 x Warriors
9 x Scarabs
8 x Scarabs
8 x Scarabs
Annihilation Barge- Tesla baby...
Annihilation Barge- Tesla baby...
Annihilation Barge- Tesla baby...
Here the idea is for the Scarabs to swamp the enemy and delay them for a turn before the rest of the army can take the bits apart..
Storm Lord lols next... JOKE! Fuck that.. Stormlord keeps night fight going and on a 6 hits an unengaged enemy unit? However, the rest of my army is not firing as it is night fight? So that requires a very specific build..which I do have in mind, so I may use it or at least throw it up here for lol's.. screw it...stormlord tomorrow..
What do you think of it guys? Decent? Remember, it has to have a SC, where I'd normally like to run 2 Barges as I love them.. oh and Sweep Attacks are awesome...
I like both the lists, I am still not sold on the only 5 warrior troop choices, but to be honest havent played enough games with the new dex to make a decision one way or another (well 6 man with royal court attached.
ReplyDeleteObyron is just plain awesome, if used correctly and I think you have that sorted. To be honest I think the whole Necron codex screams awesome if used correctly.
I look forward to your battle report from the blog wars and I hope to be attending next year.
The five man squads are easy to torrent away, but are protected for a turn by night fighting. In truly competitive lists there will be 2 pulses protecting the guys... for BW i need obyron.
ReplyDeleteI did think about lychguard with obyron as a mass warscythe threat that teleports about...
I thought that each cryptek had to have a uniqe set of abilities? Im not sure if you can have 4 of the same Harbringers.
ReplyDeleteFaq says you can have multiple Harbringers types in the same court
ReplyDeleteYup multiple harbingers of same type just have to keep unique abiities
