Cambridge Club Doubles Tournament

So this is clearly only for guys in the local area.. sorry! But we need to get the club back on form!

We have our first tournament planned!

It is a 2 week, 4 game tournament with 2 games per evening on consecutive Wednesdays!
The details are on the attached flier and it is a DOUBLES TOURNAMENT!
It is £5 to enter per person (but that includes both weeks club entry and prize fund)

So, grab a partner, throw together a 1500 point army and get on down to the club! Set up is from 6-6.30pm, then Round One is 2 hours, Round 2 is 2 hours. We have parking at the club and for free down Flamsteed Road.

If you need a partner, throw a post up on the club forum found at www.sonsofwar.org.uk and we'll find you someone to play with.

If Warhammer 40K is not your thing, we are also going to be running an Escalation Warhammer Fantasy League starting from 7th March - start at 500 points and add 500 points every month in manageable chunks...avoid having unpainted models backed up on your desk!! Great way to get some Fantasy in!! If you are an experienced player, come on down with a new army and build up over the months to the staggering sizes of Fantasy!

The perfect opportunity to learn to play and get those Christmas models on the tabletop finally!!

Love to mangle your opponent on the sportsfield? Love Warhammer? Want to do them both at once? BLOODBOWL RETURNS!! Starting 29th February we are running some starter games to get us back up to speed with the aim of running a BloodBowl Premier League starting 21st March

Don't forget we still run Warmachine, Malifaux and regular pick up play for 40k.

Cambridge Gaming Club: Reminder!! Plea!!

All the Sons are working on their Caldeonian Uprising tournament write ups.. Killswitch still on his Masters one!
Lists are prepped for Jolly Toys Outing in February - a 2K NOVA style event..

BUT, in the meantime, several of the Sons - Venerable, Kabalite and Bringer of Death can be found on a Wednesday evening from 6pm to 10.30pm at the 28th Cambridge Scout Hut on Flamsteed Road..

If you click on the SoW (or War Pig) icon to the right of the blog you will be redirected to the website (http://www.sonsofwar.org.uk/) where you can get yourself set up on our Forum and get directions etc.

The cost is £3 per night for non members or £2.50 per night for members.. less than a PINT OF BEER in Cambridge for an evenings entertainment... we also have cold drinks and snacks available to keep you going..War is not for the empty stomached!

We have been going since October and are not going anywhere.. BUT, we rely on the community coming down to check us out.. and getting stuck in.. Christmas is a wonderful time.. I chuffin' love it.. but it is not a good time to run a wargaming club! Everyone has work parties and holidays etc.. but that shit is done! Get back to the club and get your new bits and pieces of plastic crack out onto the tabletop!

We offer 40k, Warhammer, Malifaux, Infinity, Blood Bowl, Warmahordes and any specialist games you wish to play..including Dreadfleet!

2 exciting blog updates!

Very quick update for 2 exciting Sons' blog elements:

1) Commission painting will be getting a page on the site very soon, both Bully and Stargazer will be offering their services, Stargazer will focus on single miniature show pieces (HQ's etc) and Malifaux single models and Crews (I've had one, they are wonderful, exactly what I wanted) and Bully will focus on 40k, though I think to a limited scale...more news to follow

2) Next Sons' tournament is ready! As a warm up to Blog Wars 2 in December we have the next Brighton Warlords 1750 40k Tournament, this is on the 12th & 13th of November 2011 and so far there are 26 people signed up, but this bad boy goes quick! So get signed up NOW!

All the Sons are signed up so far, except Killswitch (who hasn't signed up super early for once??) and I even think Kabalite will be back from his Tour of Duty in late October so he should be all over this one too! I'm not sure whether to just book him in as he is 'incommunicado'?? Think I will...

So get signed up all you UK tournament types, hope Rupert and his Morph boys make it down, at least 3 of the Sons clashed with Rupert's team last time, think Atreides even played 2 of them!

As for me, I am working on ways of not drawing quite so many games this time (went 2-3-1 last time).....

Ven is NOT singing in the rain...Tournament Report

Nor am I WYSIWYG according to Pete the TO and WYSIWYG NAZI!!! .....My (70) Space Wolves all had two grenades on them, but some of those grenades were concealed inside pouches...this is not good enough and I lost 6 points and 3 tournament places...

Fair enough, its a system that applies to all without exception so... but still, that cost me 3 places. I knew it'd be important... I'll try and sort it out for next time. Bastard.

The weekend has been and gone and the largest singles tournament I have attended has flown by… A great time was had and many dice were thrown. When the dust settled it had been a ridiculously hard series of games, a tournament rife with ‘top’ tournament dudes…

The calibre of players at this tournament was fantastic and there were so many dudes who ended up with ‘middling’ sorts of results…including me, a really tight tournament..

On the otherhand, whilst I may have achieved solid, but not impressive results, I did score the most VPs of the tournament with 8460 from possible 10.5k, so I know I can kill stuff….not bad from 47 dudes or whatever it was…
Lets examine in brief these games.

Sons back from Brighton

Thought I'd throw up a quick post about how we did as a team at Brighton, 5 of us survived the event, with some success and some disappointment.

First off we were all damn impressed with the quality of the games, not a single of my games was easy, in fact, 4 of 6 of mine were against guys that placed in the top 10 if I remember correctly - and I didn't even do well.

Unfortunately we had ALOT of sons vs sons match ups. Atreides and Killswitch both played each other, I played both Venerable and Bringer of Death.

Sons off to Brighton ...

So we've got the Brighton Warlords rocking up this weekend for pretty much everyone here at the blog, we've all got our lists submitted and probably making our last touches to the armies (except Atreides!).


Confirmation came through today that there definitely will be a team tourney element to it for a "fun aside" - but it also, on what seems a rather possitive note, looks like teams won't be paired against each other - certainly not in the first round, as Pete has stated:

"Can you start letting me know teams please

I may do the 1st round draw on Thursday night if I know the teams"

That's good as with 5 of us down, even in a 50 man field, there's always that chance your going to be putting a crimp in a team mates day, it happened to Ven and Atreides game 1 at X-Legion earlier this year. 1st round pairings are literally 1st person to turn up vs the last person and so forth (or at least it was last time). I do wonder if Pete will maybe look at avoiding team mate vs team mate in the next couple of rounds, both KS and Ven playing each other in R3 of Brighton - though with 6 rounds and 50 players split into at least 10 teams, I doubt he can do that round on round.

SoS Gaming Club and Tournaments

Check out the new page 'Sos Wargaming and Tournaments' - we're launching our Thursday Night Gaming Club and releasing news of our plans for 4 tournaments to be hosted this year.
We have a large venue lined up with capacity for at least 30-35 tables and just need to finish (well start really...5 done...25 to go!) tables/terrain and begin the slow but sure advertising process...

Holla if you are up for a tournament...BlogCon UK or some other, more marketable, name!! lol...

Site is undergoing a bit of a revamp... the Army list links will be back up in a more localised fashion at the weekend...Saturday to be precise...

Obviously the new page is WIP as is the whole concept...but like Wayne's World....build it and they will come man...
